lyrics

Down Burma Road where the cat tails grow
Past the barn and the summer fallow
Stands a willow tree with weepy leaves
Tall and strong bracing the breeze
We’d drive out there to breathe the country air
Rain or shine we didn’t care
A ten minute drive but we’d take our time
Just you and me and our willow tree

On sunny days laying in its’ shade
Talking ‘bout what we’d do
If we lived together baring the weather
By the river in Saskatoon
We carved our names in the bark
Circled it with a giant heart
Symbolizing and solidifying that day in our memories
Our willow tree

I saw a photo display of your wedding day
In the window of a downtown shop
Your beautiful dress your husband’s caress
In a quaint country spot
I stood there longer so my mind could wander
Down the depths of memory lane
Then it struck me I could plainly see
You were both beneath our willow tree

Down Burma Road where the cat tails grow
Past the barn and the summer fallow
Stood a willow tree with weepy leaves
Tall and strong bracing the breeze
I drove out there to breathe the country air
Rain or shine I didn’t care
I brought my axe and a couple six packs
And cut that tree down to its roots
Our willow tree
